Watch Juls’ celebration of Black Girl Magic in ‘After Six’

02 Nov 2017

Producer Juls continues his run of releases by dropping off the visuals for ‘After Six (Black Girl Magic)’ featuring rising vocalists Tomi Agape and Santi. Inspired by that all too familiar glow up, the video unapologetically celebrates dark-skinned black women.

“Everything about song was done literally after six [PM]. Recording session after six, video shoot after six. It’s a popular thing I say to artists I have sessions to come to my studio after six. A lot of good things happen to me after six. The aim was to show off black beauty and traditional looks which I love to showcase in my videos as a way of appreciating our women. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do” – Juls

Beyond the aesthetic, ‘After Six’ is a sultry ode to black love and affection with Agape delivering a self-assured vocal performance over the afro-pop-infused production, complimented by Santi’s reggae-style rhymes. Directed by Tshisz Nelson, the medley of African prints on display also ties into the overarching message of black pride.
