Marta Jakubowski makes puffa dresses a thing for AW17

17 Feb 2017

On the first day of fashion week the fash pack turned up to the BFC venue on The Strand in every colour and style of puffa jacket imaginable (myself included, guilty!) We needn’t have though, not just because the sun made an unexpected appearance for a British February, but because puffa jackets are sooo last season. It’s time to make way for the puffa dress.

A big, bright, colour-block rainbow of quilted down hugged the torsos and fell provocatively off the shoulders of the models in Marta Jakubowski’s AW17 presentation, the puffa dresses reaching down to the floor or skimming the upper thigh. Set to the soundtrack of our ultimate WoC icons, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and Sade, this collection was all about celebrating the power of the grown woman. The tailoring and soft twisted velvets was deeply feminine, but not girly, reflecting the designer’s intention to portray the “growing inner strength that comes after the questioning of youth”.
